About

By providing clean, safe and affordable housing, CHAD helps hardworking individuals and families who struggle to support themselves.
Established on February 14, 1983, Community Housing Advocacy and Development (“CHAD”) is a 501(c)(3) corporation that is the largest nonprofit supplier of quality, safe and affordable, long-term rental housing on a scattered-site model in over 30 communities primarily in DuPage, Kane and portions of Will and Cook counties in Illinois.
CHAD provides affordable housing, not to be confused with subsidized public housing. We depend on the rents we collect, along with grant funds and donations, to pay for all of our housing expenses. There is no government organization behind CHAD to pay operations costs.
CHAD owns, leases and manages over 400 housing units that represent a range of affordable housing opportunities, including single family homes, duplexes, townhouses and apartments, and it provides professional property management services to over 1,100 residents.
CHAD offers below market rents to income qualified applicants who earn less than 80% of the Area Median Income (as established by HUD). Residents pay 25-50% below fair market rent, collectively saving them more than $780,000 annually.
CHAD relies on grants, public and private donations and corporate contributions and sponsorships to bridge the operating gap between revenue generated from offering below market rents and the fair market costs to maintain housing inventory in accordance with CHAD-certified standards.
